Silvano Maffeis Silvano Maffeis, Chief Technology Officer, Softwired

Dr. Maffeis joined Softwired in April 1998. He is the technological visionary of the firm and inventor of the iBus technology (MessageBus and Mobile). He brings extensive messaging oriented middleware (MOM) and engineering expertise to Softwired since designing and implementing middleware in 1992, both in academia and the financial industry. In the early 1990s, he began working on what became the Electra CORBA Object Request Broker. This research also became the foundation for his doctoral dissertation at the University of Zurich. Dr. Maffeis finished his dissertation in 1995 and joined the research group of Professor Kenneth P. Birman at Cornell University. Dr. Maffeis holds a Ph.D. from the University of Zurich. The topic of his dissertation is middleware for fault-tolerant distributed systems. From 1996 to 1998, Silvano managed the development team of Olsen and Associates a financial software company.

Dr. Maffeis has given numerous presentations about iBus, middleware, JMS, and distributed systems in general. Further, he is the author of over 35 technical articles and of two books. His work was published in magazines such as Communication of the ACM and IEEE Computer.

As a CTO, Dr. Maffeis is working on realizing Softwired's product vision of an end-to-end (e2e) messaging platform for wireline and wireless information services. He takes a leading and active role in designing and developing the iBus//Mobile product(s).
